Robert C. Horn Papyrus Collection Project Status Update

This project’s goal is to create an “open” exhibition of Trexler Library’s Robert C. Horn Papyrus Collection. In consultation with Muhlenberg’s Special Collections Librarian, Susan Falciani, we have decided on a clean layout, that presents easy access to the images of the papyri themselves, along with transcription and translation. Additionally, several tools will be presented in the exhibit that will …

Openness and Creative Work

My project for this Open Scholarship learning community has combined to of some of my favorite things – open access and creative visual design.  I’ve created an Open Resources subject guide, which directs Muhlenberg Trexler Library users to information about creative commons and resources that are in the public domain in hopes that people will be inspired to create derivative …

OER reading group summary by Rachel Hamelers

Throughout our OER reading group, I have explored the idea of how instructors in different disciplines could consistently incorporate critically thinking about information in their teaching, including but not limited to issues such as access (open and otherwise), authority, and power structures. In pursuit of this goal, I led a session at the Information Literacy Roundtable (at Muhlenberg) in January …

I haven’t chosen a specific project for the FLC. I’m already involved in FOSS outreach, several FOSS projects, and several OER repositories. I could use one of them as the basis for a project. For example: for FOSS learning activities, install & configure several MediaWiki plugins, and create more & better links between materials. for POGIL activities for CS, update …

Open Scholarship Project

Muhlenberg College is the proud owner of the Robert C. Horn Papyrus Collection which consists of 36 papyrus fragments that date from late-antique Egypt (~400 C.E.). Through the hard work and dedication of Susan Falciani, these pieces are now available online through a platform called “Shared Shelf”. This platform, however, is not particularly user friendly, and can provide a barrier to our …
